Agebuzz Asks: This Weekโs Reader Poll: In response to the September 4th reader poll regarding your first job, this question clearly sparked a lot of reflection among respondents, as we had an unusually high response rate! The largest percentage of respondents (close to 30%) replied that their first job was some sort of babysitting or motherโs helper position (some describing a very significant level of responsibility for a young person!). The next most popular position was working at a store, but interestingly, you described a range of stores that hired you- everything from factories and gas stations to pharmacies and dental offices. Many of you described positions you held that are likely no longer even in existence, such as working at a car-hop or a drive-in theater. It was definitely a trip down memory lane for many, and the salaries were almost unbelievable. Hard to remember that getting paid 50 cents or a dollar an hour was considered a reasonable sum of money to pay a young person. We hope it was as much fun for you to reflect on your early history as it was for us to read your responses. Perhaps some of you will even be spurred on to share this history and what you learned with the younger people in your life today!
Bonus question: What is your favorite team or player? |

โ[T]hat old September feeling, left over from school days, of summer passing, vacation nearly done, obligations gathering, books and football in the air ... Another fall, another turned page: there was something of jubilee in that annual autumnal beginning, as if last year's mistakes had been wiped clean by summer.โ
