Agebuzz Asks: This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the October 23rd reader poll regarding whether you currently support your adult children, fully one half of all respondents answered no, with many of you stating that you have no adult children to support, or that instead, your children occasionally help you with your finances. For those who said they do lend a hand, the support ranged from help with housing to education, and even food (it’s no wonder with food prices the way they are these days!). Many of you expressed pride that your children are self-sufficient, even financially successful, and many also expressed pleasure in helping grandchildren (even great-grandchildren) with educational costs or yearly financial gifts. Interestingly, these responses were in contrast to recent data that shows that half of all adults with an adult child provide at least some financial support to that child. A recent AARP survey found that number even higher. In these times of economic uncertainty, it’s admirable for family members to help each other financially if the need arises, though not everyone is able or willing to step up to do so. We’ll continue to monitor this issue as the economy continues to be ever more unstable in our country.

agebuzz is proud to share our sponsored ad this week FarmKind. Animal wellness is an issue close to our hearts and to those of many of our readers. Learn more about their good work below!

If you love animals, this is for you

Most of us grew up believing the animals on farms lived peaceful, simple lives β€” grazing or resting in the sun. But for 99% of them, that picture isn’t real.

Farmed animals can feel joy, pain, and fear β€” just like the cats and dogs we know.

Chickens recognize us and even pass on knowledge from generation to generation. Pigs are as smart as dogs and love belly rubs. Cows are caring mothers and have best friends they miss when separated.

Today, most live in factory farms where they can’t stretch, explore, or even feel sunlight. Many die young, not from nature, but from the stress they’re put through.

It’s heartbreaking, and it affects not just animals, but all of us.

Factory farms pollute our air and rivers, make our food less healthy, risk new COVID-style pandemics, and create antibiotic resistance, one of the greatest threats to human health.

Let’s create a legacy of a kinder way of making food, for animals and for future generations.

At FarmKind, we’ve dug through thousands of research hours to find proven charities that are saving animals from cruelty and changing this system. Our community has already helped over 4 million β€” and the best part? With just $13, you can change 25 lives!

They are too often forgotten β€” but you can change that.

It starts with people like you who believe animals deserve kindness.

Donate before the end of the week, and we’ll double your gift, so you can change even more lives.

β€œDon’t hide your face with too much gunk,/Especially if it’s old and lined/ Don’t answer e-mails when you’re drunk/Don’t live with thirty years of junk/Those precious things you’ll never find/Stop, if the car is going β€œclunk.”

An excerpt from the poem β€œSome Rules” by Wendy Cope, a contemporary English poet known for writing humorous poems that rhyme
