Agebuzz Asks: This Weekā€™s Reader Poll: In response to the November 7th reader poll regarding sleep habits, a little more than Ā½ of the respondents reported that they get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep every night (though perhaps with occasional disruptions). Another ā…“ of respondents reported getting 4-6 hours of sleep/night. The remaining respondents reported just a few hours of sleep per night or very disrupted sleep. The reasons for sleep disruption ranged from insomnia to sleep apnea to pain. As for strategies for getting better sleep? Several of you mentioned such options as chamomile tea, prescription medications, or such OTC remedies as magnesium or melatonin, and creating a quiet routine, including putting aside electronic devices well before bedtime. Given the importance of sleep for healthy aging and the recommendation that older adults get 7-9 hours of sleep per night, weā€™d say that a good portion of agebuzz readers appear to be in good standing when it comes to sleep habits!
