This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the November 6th reader poll regarding whether you have ever used an AI chatbot for medical information or help with diagnosing a medical problem for yourself or a loved one, fully 50% of respondents said that while they have not used AI for such a purpose, they have used Google or other search engines for researching medical information. Only about 10% of respondents reported using AI for such information gathering. Many of you cited concerns we have previously mentioned in agebuzz, about the accuracy of the information online and the need to find multiple sources to confirm the veracity of the information you read. Some of you said nothing replaces the face-to-face conversations you have with your medical provider. Yet, others bemoaned the lack of a relationship with their current medical team and thus the need to go online to get helpful information. Some of you said you research online, but then bring the information to your doctor to discuss. Undoubtedly, technology and AI will play a central role in both the health information you need and the relationship you have with your health care providers going forward. Let’s just hope the role is a positive one and promotes our health and well-being.
