This Week’s Reader Poll Results: Thank you to everyone who responded to our May 14th poll about the best advice you received from your parents. Fully one-third of our respondents said their parents never gave them any specific advice, though many of you said they led by example, and they modeled the type of behavior they hoped to instill in you. So, for example, some of you said you learned the value of money or the importance of being a responsible family member from your parents. Some of you offered shared advice from your parents, including admonitions to be kind, to practice everything in moderation, and to be independent and self-sufficient. Your own advice to your children in some ways mirrored these sentiments, but in other ways, it was distinct. Some of you have urged your children to follow their dreams and think about their choices, but you also underscore the importance of kindness and family connections. Thank you all for sharing your advice and wisdom. As a smart person once said, “Wisdom is meant to be shared, so let's start sharing what we've learned to make each other better."
This Week’s agebuzz Reader Poll: What advice would you give students just graduating from college and looking for work in this challenging economy?
- I would tell them to stay positive, as something will turn up
- I would tell them to accept whatever job they can & hold on until the economy turns around
- I would encourage them to be entrepreneurial & start their own businesses
- I would tell them to pursue a “safe” occupation, such as a tradesman (plumber, etc), health care professional, or teacher
- I would encourage them to travel and take menial jobs to support themselves as they discover the world
- I would suggest they live at home with their parents and take courses in AI
- I would suggest they accept an internship in a field of interest
- I would suggest they volunteer in an area of great need
- Some combination of the above responses
- Other (please describe)
Bonus question: Do you know anyone who is now graduating from college? If so, what are their plans?
A Snoring Solution That Doesn’t Affect Your Sleep Comfort or Relationship
For many of us, falling asleep is hard. More than any other time of day, comfort is crucial. CPAP machines and mandibular advancement devices (MADs) may help people get more rest once they’re asleep, but they’re so uncomfortable to deal with while awake. Even a supportive bed partner prefers something that doesn’t get in the way of cuddling and goodnight kisses. With the eXciteOSA from Spring Sleep, users treat the root cause of mild obstructive sleep apnea during the day, in just 20 minutes. Once bedtime arrives, sleeping is as simple as getting comfortable and closing your eyes.
