This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the April 24th reader poll regarding what you would do with an extra hour in your day, about ¼ of the respondents said they would welcome an extra hour of reading every day. The remaining popular responses were spread among the activities of exercising, extra sleep, pursuing a hobby, or getting together with family and friends. What’s interesting is that all of these popular activities are recommended as essential for healthy aging. Whether stimulating your brain, moving your body, or supporting your cognitive and mental health, it seems we all are inclined to do more to keep ourselves healthy and happy during our later years, if only we had the time! The question then becomes, how can you carve out that extra hour, given that it’s unlikely the days will stretch beyond the current 24 hours? That’s a puzzle you’ll need to solve, whether it’s better prioritizing what’s important to you or figuring out ways to be more efficient in whatever you currently do daily. As Carl Sandburg once said, “Time is the coin of your life. You and you alone will determine how that coin will be spent."
