This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the March 5th reader poll on steps you have taken to maintain friendships or develop new friendships, the majority of respondents have taken several steps to stay connected—such as reaching out to old friends, keeping in touch regularly, or joining community groups to meet new people. Some of you even make a point of striking up conversations with strangers. Several readers said they enjoy making new friends, especially with people from different generations.
A surprising number of you said making new friends is no longer a priority—and some find it hard even to maintain old friendships. Time constraints, health issues, transportation challenges, and family responsibilities were common reasons. As one reader put it, “If it happens, it happens.” But whether or not you have an old or new “BFF,” the important point is to stay socially engaged with whatever will keep your mind stimulated and your body active!
