This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the February 12th reader poll on what’s been the most surprising aspect of getting older, by far, the most popular response settled on a combination of features. Many of your responses huddled around the impact of your losses- the death or departure of loved ones or friends, your loss of freely moving around and being pain free, the loss of your previous good physical health, the memory loss to which you struggle to adjust or the loss of your former living arrangement and former identity. But not every response was mournful or distressing. Some of you relayed that you are finally able to focus on yourself and what you want, rather than attend to someone else’s needs. As one of you said, “No apologies to anyone!” Others were struck by the freedom of discarding unwanted or unneeded possessions and the liberation that can come from downsizing. And still others are just accepting of what their life has become and deal with it: “It is what it is,” said one of you. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on this- not an easy topic, but we cherish the comments and insights you have shared with us!”
