Agebuzz Asks: This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the November 20th reader poll regarding steps you have taken to organize and declutter your home, a majority of respondents stated they have given away, donated, or sold items that they no longer use. So many of you described your decluttering efforts, some ending in success, others in failure or exasperation, and many of you tackle this problem on an ongoing basis.  Among the most interesting decluttering tips you shared? Many suggested the tried-and-true method of getting rid of an item whenever something new comes into the house. Others suggest that you don’t hesitate or delay when it comes to mail: “Throw it out as soon as you are done with it.” Going forward, one of you exclaimed, “If I can’t eat it or wear it, I don’t buy it!” For most of us, downsizing or jettisoning possessions is a mix of physical labor and emotional turmoil. It’s not easy, but the alternative is either living among a mess of possessions or leaving an odious task to your loved ones. So give yourself some grace, get started when you can, and learn more strategies and tips from past agebuzz decluttering posts here.

A gift that changes lives?

This holiday season, honor someone special by helping animals in their name.

Even a small gift can transform the lives of animals trapped in brutal factory-farm conditions. Your kindness can free chickens from cages so they can see the sky for the first time, give mother pigs the space to finally turn, and more — simple things they’ve been denied their whole lives.

Donate yourself or give in someone’s honor before the end of the month, and we’ll double your gift.
