This Week’s Reader Poll Results: Thank you to everyone who responded to our July 30th poll about whether you have experienced a serious fall. While fully ⅓ of respondents report that they have never experienced a prior major fall, another ⅓ of you report serious prior falls, requiring emergency room treatment, surgery, rehab, and even an altered way of life as a result. The remaining ⅓ of you report prior falls, but fortunately none that landed you in serious trouble. Given that every year, 25% of older adults experience a fall, these numbers are hardly shocking, yet the descriptions of what many of you endured are troubling. Some of you described multiple broken bones from a fall, surgeries, subsequent stays in rehab facilities, even retirements or moves to a senior community as a result. As well, several of you report now being fearful of another fall, which in and of itself is a risk factor for a future fall. Many of you also now describe being more careful with your steps, yet not allowing the prior fall to inhibit you from living an active life. Since falls are the leading cause of non-fatal and fatal injuries among older adults, we sincerely hope you are doing all you can to lessen the likelihood of a future fall while not allowing the fear of falling to keep you from engaging in a full life. To help you stay upright and steady, and hopefully prevent you from being injured by a future fall, take a look at some of our agebuzz posts on falls and fall prevention by clicking here. Wishing you all the best and a future of no falls!

A New Approach to Snoring Support
For many people with mild obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring, treatment options often involve wearing a device during sleep.
eXciteOSA® by Spring Sleep takes a different approach. Used for just 20 minutes a day while awake, it is designed to strengthen tongue muscles associated with maintaining upper airway function. Because therapy is completed during the day, there is no device to wear overnight, making bedtime as simple as getting comfortable and going to sleep.
