This Weekβs Reader Poll: In response to the August 14th reader poll regarding whether it is important to you to live as long as possible, very few respondents were focused solely on the length of their lives. The majority of respondents were less concerned about their literal lifespan and much more concerned about maintaining decision-making capacity or the quality of life that would allow them to enjoy their time and their loved ones. Unsurprisingly, when asked what you hope to live long enough to witness, the majority of responses had to do with milestone events about grandchildren or even great-grandchildren- births, marriages, graduations, happy relationships, or just enough presence in someoneβs life so that you are remembered. A few of you tossed in responses related to our current politics or even peace in the Middle East. Overall, it feels like to many, if not most, itβs the important milestones in life that we share with our loved ones that give meaning and joy to our later years.

βWe do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.β
