This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the August 7th reader poll regarding whether you have a supportive network of friends in your life, about 40% of respondents answered that they either had a group of supportive friends or one or two friends that were a critical part of their support network. The remaining respondents varied in their answers, with many commenting on their lack of supportive friendships or the challenges of finding a new support network at their current stage of life. Many of you mentioned your practical need for support, for example, people you could turn to for help with transportation to medical appointments. But many also wished for a person in their lives to just be someone to listen, or to be a nonjudgmental person to chat with, or just someone whom they know would care about them, especially if something happened. It’s never easy to create meaningful and supportive friendships in life, but we have tried in previous posts to offer some suggestions for finding new friends who can be there for you, regardless of your situation. And if you have room in your supportive social circle, perhaps you can invite someone else to join that circle of support! Your kindness will be remembered, cherished, and maybe even paid forward.
