This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the April 2nd poll about gardening, the largest percentage of respondents (about 25%) said they love gardening, with particular interest in planting flowers in the spring. While some of you relayed the types of flowers (and some vegetables) that you plant in the ground, many instead mentioned pots of flowers (and some tomatoes) that fulfill your gardening abilities, either due to where you now live or what you are now capable of doing (though one avid gardener proudly described her acre of award winning flower beds!). A surprising number of you, for whatever reason, said you have never been a gardener. This comes at the same time as a distinct uptick in gardening among younger generations, either due to food costs, a desire for locally grown foods, or the pleasure of gardening and the mental health benefits it offers. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “All my hurts my garden spade can heal.” Wishing all of you who are in the process of planting right now much success for a bumper and beautiful crop.
