This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to the April 10th reader poll regarding vitamins and supplements, almost all respondents said they take at least one vitamin, multivitamin, mineral, or supplement daily, and at least ¼ of you take multiples of these daily. While a few of you suggested these products are scams or you can achieve good health just by what you eat, most described wanting to make sure you ingest some essential nutrients every day, including calcium and vitamin D. Many of you remarked that you take these products at the recommendation of your doctor, or for such other reasons as prior illnesses, wanting to support brain or bone health or believing that your regular diet is not giving you all the nutrients you need. Kudos to those of you who are paying attention to your nutritional intake (and to those of you eating a healthy diet), but make sure that whatever you take, you do so in consultation with a medical professional, as just because something is labelled a vitamin or supplement does not guarantee it is beneficial or necessary for your health.
