Last Week’s Reader Poll: In response to last week’s Reader Poll about participating in community events, the largest percentage of respondents said they participate in an occasional event such as a concert or special program but an almost equal number said they lacked the time or interest in such participation, due to work or family caregiving obligations, or physical or mental health issues. Many commented that their own personal activities provide a fulfilling life but actively participating as part of a larger community appears to be of less interest or less possible. Could it be that communities need to try harder to develop more innovative or enticing programs to interest their older populations? What do you think?
