Agebuzz Asks: This Week’s Reader Poll: In response to last week’s reader poll regarding advance care planning documents, fully half of all respondents said they have at least appointed a health care agent/health care power of attorney, and much smaller percentages have filled out a living will, had conversations with doctors and loved ones, or done all of these things. Several of you cited the concern about not burdening your children with trying to figure out these decisions. However, a not insignificant number of you have said you haven’t yet filled out a document but you plan to. Given the value of these conversations and the importance of these decisions, we urge all of you still sitting on the sidelines to take the initiative to discuss and document your wishes and desires about end-of-life treatment, and to make sure someone is legally authorized to make decisions for you if you can no longer do so yourself.
Thank you all for continuing to generously share your experiences and feelings and for responding to the previous poll.
